Bio of Connie Jean Akins

Connie AkinsThank you so much for visiting my web site. I’d like to share a little bit about who I am with you. First and foremost, I am a true believer in Jesus Christ. I am passionate about helping others deal with the things that hold them back from truly experiencing the abundant life. We are all wonderfully made by a loving Creator who has beautiful plans for each and every one of us.

Throughout my life I have experienced many of life’s deep sorrows, including death, depression, divorce, poverty, rejection, betrayal, painful childhood, body image issues, difficulty in conceiving, and children with ADHD and learning disabilities. However, God has met me in every difficult season of my life. Not only has He helped me survive, He took each trouble and transformed it into a priceless treasure.

My beliefs
My beliefs are based on the Holy Bible. I believe it is the ultimate authority on spirituality. I believe in the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit who created the Universe, the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, that Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world, I believe in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, Heaven and Hell, grace and forgiveness.

My ministry experience:
I have served in many capacities in the local church such as teaching Sunday school to children of all ages as well as adults. I have served as President of the Women’s Ministry, and been the head of the Nursery. I was the choir director for a Senior Citizen choir. My former husband and I were Jr. High directors. I have lead and co-lead many small groups.
I have attended the following churches: Baptist, EV Free, Presbyterian, Calvary Chapel, Vineyard, a Dutch Reformed church and right now I am a member of Colorado Community Church. Outside of the church I have:
  • Worked in a crisis pregnancy center
  • Started and lead a community Bible study for which I wrote most of the study material
  • Started and co-lead an anti-pornography organization
  • Did short-terms missions work in France
  • Worked for 2 years full-time for a college ministry
  • Attended Denver Seminary for 3 semesters, working on a counseling degree
  • Completed several “lay” counseling courses, including "Elijah House"
  • Volunteered for 2 years with "Forgotten Treasures," a ministry to nursing homes
  • Participated in many outreach programs for the homeless and needy
  • Involved for 3 years with "Celebrate Recovery," a Christian recovery program
  • Facilitated in Divorce Care

On a personal note:

I live in the Denver area near, or with my four wonderful children. I love the beautiful Rocky Mountains and the constant sunshine we get here. I love the Denver Broncos, Nascar and Lord of the Rings. I enjoy going out to eat and watching a good movie. My husband Alan Swartz and I are actively involved with Toastmasters, a public speaking and leadership development organization. I like to cook and can make a mean salsa! I strongly believe in laughing and having fun every day of the week. I especially love people; being with them, creating relationship, listening to their life stories and enjoying the precious moments together.
